| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the | 3 |
| State of Illinois learned with sadness of the death of | 4 |
| Katherine R. Broemmel of Chicago, formerly of Quincy, on | 5 |
| Monday, March 13, 2006; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on August 1, 1972, in Quincy to Ned | 7 |
| P. and D. Reaugh Swallow Broemmel; she was a 1990 graduate of | 8 |
| Quincy High School and received her bachelor of science degree | 9 |
| in journalism from Drake University in 1994; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She was a former legislative assistant for State | 11 |
| Senator Laura Kent Donahue and State Representative Art | 12 |
| Tenhouse; she served on the House Republican policy staff and | 13 |
| was a legislative assistant for State Representative Eileen | 14 |
| Lyons; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Ms. Broemmel was a campaign coordinator for the | 16 |
| Mark Baker for Congress campaign; she was a member of the | 17 |
| Lincoln Series of Excellence, Class of 1999; she later worked | 18 |
| for the Landmark Preservation Council of Illinois and the | 19 |
| National Association of Realtors; she was currently employed by | 20 |
| SmithBucklin Associates, where she was director of member | 21 |
| services supporting the National Cosmetology Association; and
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, She was a member of First Union Congregational | 23 |
| Church and Delta Gamma sorority, was a past member of the | 24 |
| Quincy Service League and the Junior League of Chicago, and was | 25 |
| a volunteer for PAWS; as a high school student, Ms. Broemmel | 26 |
| was a People to People representative to the former Soviet | 27 |
| Union in 1989; at age 27, she was the youngest person to plan | 28 |
| for the establishment of a charitable fund with the Community | 29 |
| Foundation of the Quincy Area; and
| 30 |
| WHEREAS, She leaves behind childhood friends, friends in |

| Chicago, and her canine buddies, Annie and Olivia; she loved to | 2 |
| travel and read and enjoyed the Cubs and the Chicago lake | 3 |
| front; she enjoyed fine Chicago restaurants and loved trying | 4 |
| our the newest eateries; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Katherine R. Broemmel has been | 6 |
| deeply felt by many, especially her parents; her sister, | 7 |
| Melissa R. Broemmel; her uncle, Cal Swallow III; her | 8 |
| great-aunts, Rita Broemmel Waterkotte and Winifred Swallow | 9 |
| Rapp; and numerous cousins; she was preceded in death by her | 10 |
| grandparents, W.C. and Dorothy Liggett Swallow Jr. and Paul B. | 11 |
| and Ethel Stork Broemmel; therefore, be it
| 12 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 13 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 14 |
| we mourn the passing of Katherine R. Broemmel, and we extend | 15 |
| our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and all who knew | 16 |
| and loved her; and be it further
| 17 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 |
| presented to her family as an expression of our sincerest | 19 |
| condolences.
