| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to honor citizens of the State of | 4 |
| Illinois; and | 5 |
| WHEREAS, Commissioner Carl R. Hansen will be leaving the | 6 |
| Board of Commissioners of Cook County in December 2006, after | 7 |
| representing the Northwest suburban area for over thirty-two | 8 |
| years; and | 9 |
| WHEREAS, Commissioner Carl R. Hansen has faithfully served | 10 |
| the County of Cook during his tenure, working tirelessly | 11 |
| towards good government; and | 12 |
| WHEREAS, Commissioner Carl R. Hansen grew up in Chicago's | 13 |
| Humboldt Park neighborhood during the Depression, and in 1944 | 14 |
| he joined the United States Army, where he rose to the status | 15 |
| of 2nd Lieutenant; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, Commissioner Carl R. Hansen worked under General | 17 |
| Dwight Eisenhower, and was stationed in Germany where he served | 18 |
| as Summary Court Judge for the U.S. Military Government, which | 19 |
| is where he met his wife, Christl; and | 20 |
| WHEREAS, Upon his return to Chicago with his bride in 1952, | 21 |
| Commissioner Carl R. Hansen earned his MBA at the University of | 22 |
| Chicago and started his own business; and | 23 |
| WHEREAS, In 1970, Commissioner Carl R. Hansen's career on | 24 |
| the Board of Commissioners began when he was appointed to fill | 25 |
| a vacancy created when a suburban representative died, and he | 26 |
| was elected to the Board in 1974, and was re-elected for seven | 27 |
| subsequent terms in office; and | 28 |
| WHEREAS, During his time on the Board of Commissioners, |

| Commissioner Carl R. Hansen was the successful sponsor of | 2 |
| significant and consequential legislation that affected | 3 |
| citizens in the entire county; and | 4 |
| WHEREAS, The legislation included a resolution sponsored | 5 |
| by Commissioner Carl R. Hansen, in which the Board voted to ban | 6 |
| sanitary landfills in the Cook County Forest Preserves, which | 7 |
| stopped the loss of at least six hundred acres of Preserve | 8 |
| property; and | 9 |
| WHEREAS, Commissioner Carl R. Hansen's tenacity and | 10 |
| determination, combined with his skills as a statesman, made | 11 |
| him a formidable opponent in debates; and | 12 |
| WHEREAS, Commissioner Carl R. Hansen's departure from the | 13 |
| Board will leave a void that will likely remain unfilled, as he | 14 |
| was a font of historical information and was considered to be | 15 |
| the "watch dog" during the County's budget process; therefore,
| 16 |
| be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 18 |
| NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 19 |
| we extend our best wishes to Commissioner Carl R. Hansen, an | 20 |
| exceptional governmental leader, on the occasion of his | 21 |
| retirement; and be it further
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 23 |
| presented to Commissioner Carl R. Hansen in honor of the | 24 |
| outstanding achievements he has made to Cook County Government.
