| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of John F. May of Decatur on | 4 |
| Saturday, January 15, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, He was born September 2, 1943, in Clinton to | 6 |
| Frederick and Helen (Braman) May; he married Linda Downs on | 7 |
| August 8, 1964, and he was a graduate of Millikin University; | 8 |
| and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. May valiantly served his country as a member | 10 |
| of the U.S. Army in Viet Nam; upon discharge, he returned to | 11 |
| Decatur and began his accounting career; he founded the firm | 12 |
| currently known as May, Cocagne, and King, P.C. with just one | 13 |
| partner and a secretary; he served as the managing partner for | 14 |
| over 30 years, and the company now has 27 members and was given | 15 |
| the Outstanding Small Business of the Year award in 2000 by the | 16 |
| Chamber of Commerce for Decatur and Macon County; and | 17 |
| WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. May was a firm believer | 18 |
| in both professional and community involvement, taking | 19 |
| leadership roles in numerous organizations; in 2004, the | 20 |
| Illinois CPA Society honored him with its Public Service Award; | 21 |
| he was a past president of the Kiwanis Club and had been an | 22 |
| officer and member of organizations ranging from the Decatur | 23 |
| Jaycees to the Junior Achievement Association, the Red Cross | 24 |
| and the Decatur-Macon County Mental Health Center; he was a | 25 |
| past president of the Chamber of Commerce, a former chairman of | 26 |
| the Small Business Council, and a member of the | 27 |
| Millikin-Decatur Executive Association; and | 28 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. May is remembered by his friends and | 29 |
| colleagues as a great person and a great leader who led by | 30 |
| example; he was outgoing and people were attracted to him | 31 |
| because of his personality and sense of caring; he was a man of |

| faith and courage; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of John F. May has been deeply felt by | 3 |
| many, especially his wife, Linda; his daughter, Marci Baumann | 4 |
| and husband Steve; his son, Michael May and wife Michelle; his | 5 |
| grandchildren, Jenny and John Baumann, and Patrick, Lucas and | 6 |
| Anna May; his father, Frederick; and his sister, Carol Bray and | 7 |
| husband Dennis; he was preceded in death by his mother, Helen, | 8 |
| and his brother, David Michael May; therefore, be it
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 10 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 |
| John F. May, and we extend our deepest sympathy to his family, | 12 |
| friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our sincere | 15 |
| condolences.
