| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of Robert E. "Bob" Becker Sr. | 4 |
| of Belleville on July 20, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Becker was born December 18, 1940, in East St. | 6 |
| Louis; he received his undergraduate and law degrees from St. | 7 |
| Louis University
and was licensed to practice law in both | 8 |
| Illinois and Missouri; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He served as an Assistant Attorney General for the | 10 |
| State of Illinois for over 20 years; he also served as an | 11 |
| Assistant State's Attorney for St. Clair County, acting as the | 12 |
| Civil Attorney and handling eminent domain matters; he was the | 13 |
| City Attorney for the City of Fairview Heights; he was the | 14 |
| legal counsel for Southwestern Illinois College, East St. Louis | 15 |
| School District 189, Cahokia School District 187, Bi-State | 16 |
| Airport, and the City of East St. Louis; he served as legal | 17 |
| counsel for the Illinois County Insurance Trust, representing | 18 |
| the counties of Bond, Christian, Clinton, Cumberland, Edwards, | 19 |
| Jersey, Monroe, and Randolph; he also served as attorney for | 20 |
| four unions: Laborers Local 100, East St. Louis; Laborers Local | 21 |
| 397, Granite City; Laborers Local 670, O'Fallon; and Operating | 22 |
| Engineers Local 148; and

| WHEREAS, He was a member of the East St. Louis Bar | 24 |
| Association (President, 1978-79; Director, 1973-74) and the | 25 |
| St. Clair County Bar Association (President, 1985-86; | 26 |
| Director, 1972-74); he was affiliated with the Illinois State, | 27 |
| Missouri, and American Bar Association; he was a Board Member | 28 |
| for the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation and served as Vice | 29 |
| President for the Illinois Institute for Local Government Law; | 30 |
| he was a member of the Illinois Municipal League Home Rule | 31 |
| Committee; he was also affiliated with the Association of Trial | 32 |
| Lawyers of America and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association; |

| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin P. | 3 |
| and Marie A., nee Sekosky, Becker; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Robert Becker is felt by all who | 5 |
| knew and loved him, especially his wife, Mary Lynn, nee Maher, | 6 |
| Becker; his children, Robert E. (Tara) Becker Jr., Katie (Matt) | 7 |
| Hoffman, and Fran (Tim) Myatt; his grandchildren, Addie, Will, | 8 |
| Kelsey, and Brockton; a special friend, Beverly Fiss; and his | 9 |
| beloved pets, Elsa, Cooper, Buddy, Lois, Calvin, and Martha; | 10 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 12 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we express our deepest | 13 |
| regret at the passing of Robert Becker and extend to his | 14 |
| family, friends, and community our most sincere condolences; | 15 |
| and be it further
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our heartfelt | 18 |
| sympathy.
