SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/2-3.148 new

    Amends the School Code. Requires the State Board of Education to compile information on (i) how to educate teachers and other providers about the unique needs of gifted and twice-exceptional children, (ii) how to train teachers in research-based methods for identifying and teaching gifted and twice-exceptional children, and (iii) research-based guidelines for unique programming for twice-exceptional children. Requires the State Board to provide this information to each school district.

1     AN ACT concerning schools.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
5 2-3.148 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/2-3.148 new)
7     Sec. 2-3.148. Gifted and twice-exceptional children;
8 information.
9     (a) In this Section, "twice-exceptional children" means
10 children who are highly intelligent but have learning
11 disabilities.
12     (b) The State Board of Education shall compile information
13 concerning all of the following and provide this information to
14 each school district:
15         (1) How to educate teachers and other providers about
16     the unique needs of gifted and twice-exceptional children.
17         (2) How to train teachers in research-based methods for
18     identifying and teaching gifted and twice-exceptional
19     children.
20         (3) Research-based guidelines for unique programming
21     for twice-exceptional children.
