SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/12-821

    Amends provisions of the Illinois Vehicle Code requiring each school bus to display at the rear of the bus a sign indicating the telephone number of the owner of the school bus. Deletes language providing that the sign shall indicate that the number is to be called to report erratic driving by the school bus driver. Adds language requiring that the sign shall be in the form "TO COMMENT ON MY DRIVING, CALL (area code and telephone number of school bus owner)". Effective January 1, 2008.

1     AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5 Section 12-821 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/12-821)
7     Sec. 12-821. Display of telephone number; complaint calls.
8     (a) Each school bus shall display at the rear of the bus a
9 sign, with letters and numerals readily visible and readable,
10 indicating the area code and telephone number of the owner of
11 the school bus, regardless of whether the owner is a school
12 district or another person or entity. The sign shall be in the
13 following form:
14     "TO COMMENT ON MY DRIVING, CALL (area code and telephone
15 number of school bus owner)" indicate that the number is to be
16 called to report erratic driving by the school bus driver.
17     (b) The owner of each school bus shall establish procedures
18 for accepting the calls provided for under subsection (a) and
19 for taking complaints.
20     (c) The procedures established under subsection (b) shall
21 include, but not be limited to:
22         (1) an internal investigation of the events that led to
23     each complaint; and

1         (2) a report to the complaining party on the results of
2     the investigation and the action taken, if any.

4     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
5 1, 2008.
