| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | | 3 |
| Representatives are pleased to congratulate James Knightly on | | 4 |
| the occasion of his retirement from the Chicago Police | | 5 |
| Department after 41 years of service; and
| | 6 |
| WHEREAS, James Knightly will retire with the rank of | | 7 |
| Captain and as the most senior officer in the Chicago Police | | 8 |
| Department; and
| | 9 |
| WHEREAS, James Knightly grew up in Gresham; he was one of | | 10 |
| 12 children; he attended St. Sabina Elementary School, then | | 11 |
| went on to St. Rita High School; and
| | 12 |
| WHEREAS, James Knightly joined the Chicago Police | | 13 |
| Department in February 1966; in 1980, he was promoted to | | 14 |
| Sergeant in Chicago's 4th District; after several | | 15 |
| reassignments, he was promoted to Lieutenant of the 22nd | | 16 |
| District in Morgan Park; in December 2000, he was promoted to | | 17 |
| Captain of the 4th District; and
| | 18 |
| WHEREAS, Through the Chicago Police Department, James | | 19 |
| Knightly attended Daley College, where he received his | | 20 |
| associate's degree in 1978, and Calumet College of St. Joseph, | | 21 |
| where he received his bachelor's degree in 2000; and

| WHEREAS, In February 1967 James Knightly was injured in the | | 2 |
| line of duty when he was shot twice while responding to an | | 3 |
| armed robbery; and
| | 4 |
| WHEREAS, James Knightly has had many accomplishments | | 5 |
| during his long and distinguished career, including the | | 6 |
| Superintendent Award of Valor, 2 Life Saving Awards, 12 | | 7 |
| Complementary Letters, and 2 WGN Friend Indeed Awards, among | | 8 |
| many others; and
| | 9 |
| WHEREAS, During his retirement, James Knightly plans to | | 10 |
| travel as much as possible, preferably to every Major League | | 11 |
| baseball stadium throughout the country; and
| | 12 |
| WHEREAS, A retirement celebration in James Knightly's | | 13 |
| honor will be held on June 29, 2007 from 7 PM to 11 PM at the | | 14 |
| Beverly Woods Restaurant in Chicago; therefore, be it
| | 15 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | | 16 |
| NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | | 17 |
| congratulate James Knightly on his retirement and wish him | | 18 |
| continued success and happiness in the future; and be it | | 19 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
