AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 753

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 753 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4     "Section 5. The Supreme Court Historic Preservation Act is
5 amended by changing Section 10 as follows:
 
6     (705 ILCS 17/10)
7     Sec. 10. Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission;
8 creation; commissioners; appointments; terms; compensation.
9     (a) The Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission is
10 created within the Judicial Branch of State government.
11     (b) The Commission consists of 9 commissioners as follows:
12         (1) the Administrative Director of the Illinois Courts
13     shall serve as a commissioner ex officio;
14         (2) Two commissioners appointed by the Court, one of
15     whom shall be designated as the chairperson of the
16     Commission upon appointment;

1         (3) Two commissioners appointed by the Governor;
2         (4) Two commissioners appointed by the President of the
3     Senate, one of whom may not belong to the same political
4     party as the President; and
5         (5) Two commissioners appointed by the Speaker of the
6     House of Representatives, one of whom may not belong to the
7     same political party as the Speaker.
8     (c) The terms of the initial appointed commissioners shall
9 commence upon qualification. Each appointing authority shall
10 designate one appointee to serve for a 2-year term running
11 through June 30, 2009, and each appointing authority shall
12 designate one appointee to serve for a 4-year term running
13 through June 30, 2011. The commissioner designated as the
14 chairperson by the Court must be appointed for a 4-year term.
15 The initial appointments must be made by January 1, 2008 within
16 60 days after the effective date of this Act.
17     (d) After the initial terms, commissioners shall serve for
18 4-year terms commencing on July 1 of the year of appointment
19 and running through June 30 of the 4th following year.
20 Commissioners may be reappointed to one or more subsequent
21 terms.
22     (e) Vacancies occurring other than at the end of a term
23 shall be filled by the appointing authority only for the
24 balance of the term of the commissioner whose office is vacant.
25     (f) Terms shall run regardless of whether the position is
26 filled.

1     (g) The members of the Commission shall receive no
2 compensation for their service, except for their actual
3 expenses while in the discharge of their official duties.

5     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
6 becoming law.".
