1 AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 996
2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 996 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4     "Section 5. The Circuit Courts Act is amended by adding
5 Section 2.5 as follows:

6     (705 ILCS 35/2.5 new)
7     Sec. 2.5. Retention elections. Retention elections for
8 circuit judges shall be conducted at general elections, as
9 provided for herein under Article VI, Section 12 of the
10 Constitution:
11     (a) Circuit judges elected from a subcircuit in a circuit
12 shall run for retention from that subcircuit in the circuit;
13     (b) Circuit judges elected from a county in a circuit shall
14 run for retention from that county in the circuit; and
15     (c) Circuit judges elected at large shall run for retention
16 at large in the circuit.

1     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
2 becoming law.".
