| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| wish to express their sincere condolences to the family and | 4 |
| friends of Mary D. Richards of Aurora who passed away on | 5 |
| Tuesday, January 9, 2007; and
| 6 |
| WHEREAS, She was born on September 29, 1933 to Andrew L. | 7 |
| and Eleanor E. (nee Donovan) Heitkotter; she was united in | 8 |
| marriage to Bill Richards in November of 1955; she was a | 9 |
| graduate of Northwestern's James Ward Thorne School of Nursing | 10 |
| and began her career at the Dryer Clinic in Aurora; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, She was a tireless advocate to her entire | 12 |
| community and devoted countless hours and energies in service | 13 |
| to the Aurora Junior Women's Club as the Director of Aurora | 14 |
| Children's Dental Service for 35 years; she also was involved | 15 |
| in The Aurora Republican Women's Club, Senior Services | 16 |
| Associates, and the Visiting Nurses Association; she and her | 17 |
| family were members of the Holy Angels Parish and she quickly | 18 |
| became involved with the St. Anne's Society; she was the first | 19 |
| recipient of the Dr. George Shimkus Award for Community | 20 |
| Service; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, She ran for office in 1980 and was elected to the | 22 |
| Kane County Board where she served for 24 years; as a member of |

| the board, she assisted in the revitalization of the County's | 2 |
| Health Department, led the Forest Preserve Commission's | 3 |
| expansion of open space, and was instrumental in setting up | 4 |
| Government Day in Kane County; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was an ardent fan of the Kane County Cougars; | 6 |
| she also had registered hundreds of voters by organizing and | 7 |
| conducting her own voter registrations; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of Mary D. Richards has been deeply | 9 |
| felt by many, especially her husband of 51 years, G. William | 10 |
| Richards; her daughter, Rebecca (Walter) Thompson; her son, | 11 |
| Thomas A. (Kathy) Richards and family, Melanie Franklin and | 12 |
| Stephen Dale; her daughter, Debbie (Carl) Angello and family, | 13 |
| Jason and Joshua Angello and Brooke Hermann; her daughter, | 14 |
| Robin Kramer and children, Jessica and Trevor; her daughter, | 15 |
| Mimi (Jeff) Steinwart and family, Erin, Emily, and Natalie; her | 16 |
| son, Chip (Stefene) Richards and family, Megan, Alexis, and | 17 |
| Ben; her daughter, Amy Richards; her five great-grandchildren; | 18 |
| her niece and goddaughter, Karen (Jim) Bozarth; and other | 19 |
| nieces and nephews; she was preceded in death by her parents | 20 |
| and her sisters, Anne Joel and Kathryn Fox; therefore, be it
| 21 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | 22 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 23 |
| Mary D. Richards, and we extend our sincere condolences to her |

| family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 2 |
| further

| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 4 |
