SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
55 ILCS 5/2-1002   from Ch. 34, par. 2-1002

    Amends the Counties Code. In a Section concerning counties under township organization, provides that public notice of a special meeting of a county board must be given as prescribed in the Open Meetings Act (now, publication in a specified newspaper).

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing Section
5 2-1002 as follows:
 
6     (55 ILCS 5/2-1002)  (from Ch. 34, par. 2-1002)
7     Sec. 2-1002. Special meetings. Special meetings of the
8 board shall be held only when requested by at least one-third
9 of the members of the board, or when requested by the chairman
10 of the board in counties where such chairman is elected by the
11 voters of the county, which request shall be in writing,
12 addressed to the clerk of the board, and specifying the time
13 and place of such meeting, upon reception of which the clerk
14 shall immediately transmit notice, in writing, of such meeting,
15 to each of the members of the board. Public notice of special
16 meetings must be given as prescribed in Section 2.02 of the
17 Open Meetings Act. The clerk shall also cause notice of such
18 meeting to be published in some newspaper printed in the
19 county, if any there be. In case a vacancy arises in the office
20 of clerk, because of death or other reason, then the request
21 shall be addressed to the circuit clerk who shall perform the
22 duties of the clerk pursuant to this Section.
