SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
55 ILCS 105/3   from Ch. 91 1/2, par. 203

    Amends the County Care for Persons with Developmental Disabilities Act. Provides that any county board for the care and treatment of persons with a developmental disability shall consist of 5 members (instead of 3). Specifies the terms of the members of the board. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The County Care for Persons with Developmental
5 Disabilities Act is amended by changing Section 3 as follows:
 
6     (55 ILCS 105/3)  (from Ch. 91 1/2, par. 203)
7     Sec. 3. County board for care and treatment of persons with
8 a developmental disability.
9     (a) When any county has authority to levy a tax for the
10 purpose of this Act, the presiding officer of the county board
11 with the advice and consent of the county board, shall appoint
12 a board of 5 3 directors who shall administer this Act. The
13 board shall be designated the "(name of county) County Board
14 for Care and Treatment of Persons with a Developmental
15 Disability". The original appointees shall be appointed for
16 terms expiring, respectively, on June 30 in the first year (for
17 one appointee), second year (for 2 appointees), and third year
18 (for 2 appointees) years following their appointment as
19 designated by the appointing authority. All succeeding terms
20 shall be for 3 years and appointments shall be made in like
21 manner. Vacancies shall be filled in like manner for the
22 balance of the unexpired term. Each director shall serve until
23 his successor is appointed. Directors shall serve without

1 compensation but shall be reimbursed for expenses reasonably
2 incurred in the performance of their duties.
3     (b) Within 60 days after the effective date of this
4 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly, the presiding
5 officer of any county that has established a 3-member board
6 under this Section shall appoint 2 additional members to that
7 board. Of the 2 members appointed under this amendatory Act of
8 the 96th General Assembly, one shall serve for a term expiring
9 on June 30 of the second year following his or her appointment,
10 and one shall serve for a term expiring on June 30 of the third
11 year following his or her appointment. Their successors shall
12 serve for 3-year terms.

14     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
15 becoming law.
