HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, It is clear that the past two gubernatorial administrations did not consult with the alumni associations of the various State universities before making appointments to those universities' boards of trustees; and

WHEREAS, A degree from a particular institution does not automatically qualify an individual to be a trustee, nor should a non-graduate automatically be disqualified from service; nonetheless, a successful trustee ought to have a longstanding relationship with his or her particular university; it stands to reason that the mandatory predicate for any trustee candidate should be an intangible love for the institution of higher education that he or she is being asked to serve; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge Governor Quinn to return to the practice of selecting State university trustees from a list provided by and vetted by the alumni association of the State university in question; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be delivered to Governor Quinn.
