| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, Currently only five Veterans Administration | 3 |
| hospitals operate in Illinois, including the Jesse Brown VA | 4 |
| Medical Center in Chicago, the VA Illiana Health Care System in | 5 |
| Danville, the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, the | 6 |
| Marion VA Medical Center in Marion, and the North Chicago VA | 7 |
| Medical Center in North Chicago; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, An additional 14 outpatient clinics serve | 9 |
| Illinois veterans, including the Aurora Clinic, the Auburn | 10 |
| Gresham and Lakeside clinics in Chicago, the Chicago Heights | 11 |
| Clinic, the Elgin Clinic, the Evanston Clinic, the Freeport | 12 |
| Clinic, the Oak Park Clinic in Hines, the Joliet Clinic, the | 13 |
| LaSalle Clinic, the Manteno Clinic, the McHenry Clinic, the Oak | 14 |
| Lawn Clinic, and the Rockford Clinic; and
| 15 |
| WHEREAS, Only eight community-based outpatient clinics | 16 |
| serve the remainder of Illinois veterans, including the | 17 |
| Belleville Clinic, the Decatur VA Outpatient Clinic, the | 18 |
| Effingham Community Based Outpatient Clinic, the Galesburg VA | 19 |
| Clinic, the Mt. Vernon Community Based Outpatient Clinic, the | 20 |
| Bob Michel VA Outpatient Clinic in Peoria, the Quincy VA | 21 |
| Clinic, and the Springfield VA Outpatient Clinic; and

| WHEREAS, Our nation's veterans deserve to expect that their |

| post-service needs will be addressed, particularly when | 2 |
| involving their health and welfare; and, moreover, in tough | 3 |
| economic times it is especially important to avoid budget cuts | 4 |
| affecting the quality of care our veterans receive; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, While grateful for the medical facilities already | 6 |
| located throughout Illinois, veterans of this State express | 7 |
| concerns regarding the lack of a centrally located Veterans | 8 |
| Administration hospital in the State; and the Director of the | 9 |
| Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs agrees, citing that no | 10 |
| medical facility for our State's veterans in the central part | 11 |
| of Illinois is a problem; therefore, be it
| 12 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 13 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 14 |
| urge Congress to promulgate the establishment of a Central | 15 |
| Illinois VA hospital in Peoria; and be it further
| 16 |
| RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 17 |
| presented to the Honorable Eric K. Shinseki, Secretary of the | 18 |
| U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and to each member of the | 19 |
| Illinois congressional delegation.
