| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives have learned with great sorrow of the death of | 4 |
| Morris Tellerman at the age of 89; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Morris was born in Novemyasto, Poland, near | 6 |
| Random; and
| 7 |
| WHEREAS, Morris hated fighting, but as a boy fought to | 8 |
| defend the Jewish people from a Polish pogrom in Przytyk; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Morris escaped the Holocaust by fleeing to Russia, | 10 |
| where he volunteered in the Russian Army to fight the Nazis; | 11 |
| and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Fighting in the siege of Leningrad, Morris was one | 13 |
| of only 50 who survived from a battalion of 11,000; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, Later in the war, Morris and his fellow soldiers | 15 |
| liberated the Majdanek concentration camp; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, After the war Morris went to Modena, Italy, where | 17 |
| he assisted the Jewish Brigade smuggle Holocaust survivors into | 18 |
| what later would become the State of Israel; and

| WHEREAS, After the war Morris reunited with his beloved | 2 |
| wife, Carol Tellerman, who also miraculously survived the | 3 |
| Holocaust; and
| 4 |
| WHEREAS, The young couple immigrated to the United States | 5 |
| in 1947, first settling in Brooklyn, New York, and then in | 6 |
| Flemington, New Jersey, where Morris worked hard and realized | 7 |
| the American dream, raising a beautiful family of three girls; | 8 |
| and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Although a very handsome man, Morris' inner | 10 |
| qualities meant far more to him than his outward beauty; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Morris' daughters believe that he was a | 12 |
| Lamedvavnik, one of the 36 humble righteous ones mentioned in | 13 |
| Kabbalah, or Jewish mysticism, who are hidden and unknown even | 14 |
| to themselves, too humble to think they are special; and for | 15 |
| whose sake, because they respond to the suffering of the world | 16 |
| with compassion, God preserves the world; and
| 17 |
| WHEREAS, Morris and Carol eventually retired to the | 18 |
| sunshine of Hallandale Beach, Florida, where his conviviality | 19 |
| continued to bring joy and happiness to all those who had the | 20 |
| privilege of knowing him until he uttered his last words: "I | 21 |
| love you", surrounded by his family; and

| WHEREAS, Morris Tellerman's passing will be deeply felt by | 2 |
| many, especially his wife, Carol; his three very successful | 3 |
| daughters, Dr. Judith Tellerman, a Chicago psychologist, who | 4 |
| has testified before a Committee of the House, Deborah | 5 |
| Berkowitz, a Florida intellectual property attorney, and Dr. | 6 |
| Barbara Tellerman, a Missouri radiologist; his four | 7 |
| grandchildren; and his great-grandchild; therefore, be it
| 8 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 10 |
| join the family and friends of Morris Tellerman in mourning the | 11 |
| loss of this freedom fighter from the "Greatest Generation"; | 12 |
| and be it further
| 13 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 |
| presented to the family of Morris Tellerman as a symbol of our | 15 |
| sincere sympathy.
