| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Ray Allen | 4 |
| Watkins of Aurora, who passed away on October 26, 2009; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Ray Watkins was born on April 6, 1925, in | 6 |
| Danville; his parents were Harry and India Watkins; he married | 7 |
| Jo Ann Beyer on February 20, 1948, in Danville; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Ray Watkins was a graduate of Danville High | 9 |
| School; after high school, he joined the United States Navy, | 10 |
| serving with the Navy Seabees in the South Pacific theater | 11 |
| during World War II; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, Ray Watkins earned a degree in engineering from | 13 |
| the Rose Polytechnical Institute in Terre Haute, Indiana; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, In 1953, Ray Watkins and his family moved to | 15 |
| Aurora, where he took a job with Pines Engineering as a | 16 |
| mechanical design engineer; he later took a job with Western | 17 |
| Electric in Montgomery, then transferred to AT&T in Lisle, | 18 |
| where he remained until his retirement in 1990; he also served | 19 |
| as a part-time drafting instructor at Aurora College and | 20 |
| Waubonsee Community College; and |

| WHEREAS, Ray Watkins committed his life to Christ in his | 2 |
| early twenties and led a life of giving and volunteer work; he | 3 |
| served as a tutor for the Joliet and Channahon school districts | 4 |
| and Waubonsee Community College's adult and family program; he | 5 |
| worked with the God's Gym program at First Presbyterian Church | 6 |
| and was a Helping Hand at the Dreyer Medical Clinic; he was a | 7 |
| long-time member of Gideons International; he was also very | 8 |
| active at his church, where he served on various boards, sang | 9 |
| in the choir, and taught numerous Sunday School classes; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, Ray Watkins is survived by his wife of 61 years, | 11 |
| Jo Ann; his children and their spouses, Warren and Cheri | 12 |
| Watkins, Ede and Mike Huff, Paul and Lois Watkins, Patty and | 13 |
| John Brewer, Mark and Sharon Watkins, Win and Joe Lombardi, | 14 |
| Chris and Ted Johnson, and Matthew and Nancy Watkins; his | 15 |
| grandchildren, Brad, Kurt, and Angie Watkins, Marty, Rob, | 16 |
| Jenny, Kit, and Peter Gurry, Amanda, Nicole, and Molly Watkins, | 17 |
| Abby, Ben, Audrey, Teddy, Annie, Allie, and Addison Brewer, | 18 |
| Justin, Luke, Clint, and Tyler Watkins, Jim and TJ Lombardi, | 19 |
| Travis, Mitch, and Sean Johnson, and Bryan, Darryl, Melanie, | 20 |
| and Rachel Watkins; and his great-grandchildren, Cole, | 21 |
| Madison, Joslyn, Isabelle, and Noah Drietz, Mia Donald, Tiernan | 22 |
| Roelofs, and Laurel Gurry; therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 24 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |
