| HOUSE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 |
| Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Natalie | 4 |
| Rose Wilson Puryear, who passed away on January 6, 2010; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Natalie Puryear was born on September 20, 1949, in | 6 |
| Chicago; her parents were Nathan and Ruth Wilson; she married | 7 |
| James Puryear in 1973; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, Natalie Puryear attended Providence High School, | 9 |
| where she participated in cheerleading, dance, music, and other | 10 |
| activities; she then attended the University of Illinois at | 11 |
| Chicago; and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, After college, Natalie Puryear began her career as | 13 |
| a corporate buyer for Sears Roebuck and Company; she quickly | 14 |
| ascended the ranks at Sears until she decided that she wanted | 15 |
| to spend more time with her sons; she then moved into the real | 16 |
| estate industry, working for Shirley Amico, Trico, and others; | 17 |
| she also founded her own firm, Ventures Gained; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, Natalie Puryear was a member of numerous community | 19 |
| organizations, including Africare, Jazz Unites, and Chicago | 20 |
| Gospelfests; she was a charter member and major contributor to | 21 |
| the Lake Shore Chapter of the Links; she also coordinated the |

| annual "Celebrate South Shore" events; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, Natalie Puryear served as Vice President of | 3 |
| Communications of the Black United Fund of Illinois (BUFI); she | 4 |
| was responsible for the creation of BUFI's Living | 5 |
| Legends/Passing the Torch Awards, which honored legendary | 6 |
| African-American men and women who had a major impact in the | 7 |
| communities they served and passed their knowledge and | 8 |
| experience to others to keep their initiatives alive; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Natalie Puryear was preceded in death by her | 10 |
| father and her sister, Linda; and
| 11 |
| WHEREAS, Natalie Puryear is survived by her sons, Wesley | 12 |
| (Valerie) and Jeffrey; her mother; her siblings, Donald (Ruth), | 13 |
| Rita, Claude (Alberta), Rhonda Coriano (Victor), and Lawrence | 14 |
| (Sabrina); and her many nieces, nephews, friends, and other | 15 |
| relatives; and | 16 |
| WHEREAS, Natalie Puryear will be remembered by all who knew | 17 |
| and loved her as a loving, passionate, and hardworking woman | 18 |
| whose dedication to her family and community were unmatched; | 19 |
| therefore, be it

| RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 21 |
| NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we |

| mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of | 2 |
| Natalie Rose Puryear; and be it further
| 3 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 4 |
| presented to the family of Natalie Puryear as an expression of | 5 |
| our sympathy.
