| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of John | 4 | | James Rafter, Retired Captain of the Chicago Police Department, | 5 | | of Spring Hill, Florida, formerly of Edison Park, Chicago, who | 6 | | recently passed away; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, He was the son of the late James and Mary, nee | 8 | | Sheridan, Rafter, from the counties Mayo and Sligo, Ireland; | 9 | | and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, He and his wife raised their children in Edison | 11 | | Park, Chicago, where they lived for 32 years; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, During his years as a police officer, he attained | 13 | | the rank of Captain and position of Assistant Deputy | 14 | | Superintendent in charge of Internal Affairs; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, After he retired, they moved to Spring Hill, | 16 | | Florida, where he enjoyed playing golf and traveling; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, John James Rafter was the beloved husband of Fern, | 18 | | nee LeGere, for 59 years; the loving father of Martin (Roberta | 19 | | Werneske), Peggy (Richard) Thompson, James (Loretta), William | 20 | | (Diane), and Sheila (Matthew) Sledz; the grandfather of |

| 1 | | Jennifer, and the late Michael Rafter, Ryan, Scott, Sean, and | 2 | | Megan Thompson, Daniel and Lauren Rafter, and Bridget and | 3 | | Eileen Sledz; the brother of Bridget (James) McNamara; the | 4 | | brother-in-law of Frank LeGere; and the uncle of many nieces | 5 | | and nephews; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 | | NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we | 8 | | mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of John | 9 | | James Rafter; and be it further
