AMENDMENT TO SENATE BILL 676

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend Senate Bill 676 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4     "Section 5. The Illinois Fire Protection Training Act is
5 amended by adding Section 12.5 as follows:
 
6     (50 ILCS 740/12.5 new)
7     Sec. 12.5. Autism recognition and response; training.
8     (a) The Office of the State Fire Marshal shall develop,
9 adopt, or otherwise approve a training course regarding the
10 risks associated with autism and appropriate autism
11 recognition and response techniques.
12     (b) The training may take the form of Internet, DVD, CD
13 ROM, or classroom-based instruction. Nothing in this Act shall
14 impose a train-the-trainer level requirement.
15     (c) Every person who, after the effective date of this
16 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly, is seeking

1 certification in a position of firefighter 1 or 2, whose duties
2 involve fire suppression, firefighting, or fire rescue,
3 whether as a volunteer or as a paid employee, must
4 satisfactorily complete an education course in autism
5 recognition and response techniques after the effective date of
6 this amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly.
 
7     Section 10. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems
8 Act is amended by adding Section 3.52 as follows:
 
9     (210 ILCS 50/3.52 new)
10     Sec. 3.52. Autism recognition and response; training.
11     (a) The Department shall develop, adopt, or otherwise
12 approve a training course and curriculum with the purpose of
13 informing emergency medical technicians of the risks
14 associated with autism, as well as providing instruction in
15 appropriate autism recognition and response techniques.
16     (b) The training may take the form of Internet, DVD, CD
17 ROM, or classroom-based instruction. Nothing in this Act shall
18 impose a train-the-trainer level requirement.
19     (c) Before being certified by the Department, each
20 emergency medical technician trained in basic life support
21 services must satisfactorily complete the training course
22 developed under subsection (a). Every person who, on the
23 effective date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General
24 Assembly, is serving in a capacity as a certified emergency

1 medical technician must satisfactorily complete a continuing
2 education course in autism recognition and response techniques
3 within 18 months after the effective date of this amendatory
4 Act of the 96th General Assembly.
 
5     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
6 becoming law.".
