| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of Mae Anita Leverett of Chicago, who passed | 4 |
| away on February 7, 2009; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, She was born of January 12, 1918 in Augusta, | 6 |
| Georgia to the late Mary and William Brown; she accepted Jesus | 7 |
| Christ as her Savior at an early age; she was a graduate of | 8 |
| Haines High School and Spellman College in Atlanta, Georgia, | 9 |
| where she majored in education; and
| 10 |
| WHEREAS, She taught students in junior high school in the | 11 |
| Augusta schools; during her time teaching, she met and married | 12 |
| George Taylor Leverett and together they had five children; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, She moved with her family to Chicago in 1947 and | 14 |
| found employment with the Spiegel Company; she retired as Lead | 15 |
| Operator after thirty-seven years with the company, and was | 16 |
| given one of the largest retirement parties in the history of | 17 |
| the company for her years of outstanding service; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband, George; | 19 |
| her sisters, Willa, Ester, and Eleanor; her brother, William; | 20 |
| and her youngest son, Tyrone; and

| WHEREAS, Mae Anita Leverett is survived by her son, George | 2 |
| (Shirley); her daughters, Betty Cobbs, Paulette Nash, and | 3 |
| Minister Annette Clemons (Lloyd); her play-daughters, Nadine | 4 |
| McKinnor, Debra Lewis, and Mary Reed (Ruben); her fourteen | 5 |
| grandchildren; her twenty-one great-grandchildren; and a host | 6 |
| of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
| 7 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 8 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 9 |
| her family and friends, the passing of Mae Anita Leverett; and | 10 |
| be it further
| 11 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 |
| presented to the family of Mae Anita Leverett as a symbol of | 13 |
| our sincere sympathy.
