| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Anthony Nemetz of Waukegan, who passed | 4 | | away on July 18, 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Nemetz was born on December 14, 1918 and | 6 | | raised in Kenosha, Wisconsin, where his parents, Anton and Rose | 7 | | Nemetz, owned and operated a bar and restaurant on Sheridan | 8 | | Road; in June of 1940, he married Mary Ellen Spiroff and moved | 9 | | to Waukegan; a son, Robert, was born the following year; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Soon after the birth of his son, Anthony Nemetz | 11 | | was drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to war, where he served | 12 | | as an infantryman during World War II; in the winter of | 13 | | 1944-45, he took part in the Battle of the Bulge, the single | 14 | | largest and bloodiest battle fought by American forces during | 15 | | the war; during that battle, he suffered a shrapnel wound; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, After World War II, Anthony Nemetz worked as a | 17 | | salesman for Sears, Roebuck & Co.; he then went into business | 18 | | for himself manufacturing and selling aluminum storm and screen | 19 | | windows; later, he started his own general contracting | 20 | | business, constructing numerous well-built homes throughout | 21 | | Lake County; after his wife passed away in 1969, he opened a | 22 | | car wash on the corner of Greenwood and Jackson in Waukegan and |

| 1 | | later opened a self-service car wash on Edison Court; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Nemetz was a talented musician who played | 3 | | in a local tamburitizan orchestra that entertained at weddings, | 4 | | picnics, and other Croatian events; he frequently enjoyed | 5 | | playing the organ for family and friends; he enjoyed traveling | 6 | | to visit his son Bob and his wife Peggy in Maryland, other | 7 | | members of his family in Florida and Pennsylvania, and the | 8 | | family members of his long-time companion, Margaret Egan, who | 9 | | had children and grandchildren in several other states; he was | 10 | | an avid sports fan who closely followed his favorite teams, the | 11 | | Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, and the Chicago Bulls, and was | 12 | | a good golfer as well; his hobby was to try to beat the odds at | 13 | | the local offtrack betting outlet, where he spent many hours | 14 | | with friends; he was also a die-hard Democrat who kept current | 15 | | on all politics and who did not hesitate to argue his position | 16 | | on issues with anyone who would do so; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Nemetz was preceded in death by his | 18 | | parents, Anton and Rose (Kovacic) Nemetz; his sister, Rose | 19 | | Miladin; and his brothers, Frank and Robert Nemetz; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Anthony Nemetz is survived by his son, Robert | 21 | | Anthony Nemetz; his daughter-in-law, Margaret "Peggy" | 22 | | Nottingham Nemetz; his nephews, James Nemetz and Bill Miladin; | 23 | | and several cousins; therefore, be it
