| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Carl L. Matthews, of Ottawa, Chicago, and | 4 | | Glencoe, who passed away on June 26, 2010; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born on December 21, 1918, the eldest child | 6 | | of Carl and Hessie Matthews; he served his country proudly in | 7 | | the Air Corp in Europe during World War II; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, After his time in World War II, he returned to | 9 | | Ottawa and met Marguerite Hughes, who would be his wife of 61 | 10 | | years; they were wed on August 6, 1949, settled in Chicago, and | 11 | | Carl began his career with Mutual Trust Life Insurance, an | 12 | | association which ended upon Carl's retirement 25 years ago; | 13 | | and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Carl and Margy were devoted members of the | 15 | | Catholic faith and served as Co-Presidents of the Chicago | 16 | | Federation of the Christian Family Movement; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Carl Matthews devoted his second career as a | 18 | | volunteer with the Howard Area Community Center, where the | 19 | | annual "Volunteer of the Year" award is now named in his honor; | 20 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy; | 2 | | and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Carl Matthews was the devoted father to Mark | 4 | | (Christi), Peggy (George) Kirk, and the late Nancy (Steve) | 5 | | Moore; and he was the proud grandfather to Kathryn, | 6 | | Christopher, Kaitlin, and Michael; therefore, be it
| 7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL | 8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 9 | | his family and friends, the passing of Carl Matthews; and be it | 10 | | further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Carl Matthews as a symbol of our | 13 | | sincere sympathy.
