1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing
5Section 3-641 as follows:
 
6    (625 ILCS 5/3-641)
7    Sec. 3-641. Deceased police officer or firefighter plates.
8    (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and
9applications made in the form prescribed by the Secretary, may
10issue special registration plates to the surviving spouse and
11or, if no spouse exists, the parents of a police officer or
12firefighter who has died in the line of duty in this State. The
13special plates issued pursuant to this Section shall be affixed
14only to passenger vehicles of the first division or motor
15vehicles of the second division weighing not more than 8,000
16pounds.
17    Plates issued under this Section shall expire according to
18the multi-year procedure established by Section 3-414.1 of this
19Code.
20    (b) The design and color of the special plates shall be
21wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate
22documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall accompany
23each application.

1    (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a
2$15 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate
3registration fee. This additional fee shall be deposited into
4the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be used
5by the Secretary to help defray the administrative processing
6costs.
7    For each registration renewal period, a $2 fee, in addition
8to the appropriate registration fee, shall be charged. This
9additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
10Special License Plate Fund.

12    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect January
131, 2013.
