| 1 | | HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly are | 3 | | pleased to honor the men and women of law enforcement who | 4 | | worked during the NATO Summit in Chicago; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, The list of law enforcement agencies that helped | 6 | | during the Summit include: the Chicago Police Department led by | 7 | | Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, the Illinois | 8 | | State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, the | 9 | | Secret Service, Homeland Security, the Illinois National | 10 | | Guard, the United States Army, law enforcement officers from | 11 | | around the State, law enforcement officers from neighboring | 12 | | states, as well as many others; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, With over a week of daily rallies and marches, law | 14 | | enforcement officers worked in high temperatures, cumbered | 15 | | with heavy equipment and standing on hot pavement, and in some | 16 | | cases working longer than 12-hour shifts; the officers showed | 17 | | patience and used crowd control tactics that worked, with few | 18 | | injuries or arrests; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, President Barack Obama, Chicago Mayor Rahm | 20 | | Emanuel, and NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen all | 21 | | praised the 12,000-member police force, with President Obama | 22 | | saying that "Chicago performed magnificently"; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Because of the diligent and dedication of law | 2 | | enforcement officers, there was little vandalism or injuries | 3 | | during the NATO Summit, making for a peaceful opportunity for | 4 | | important meetings between heads of state and other | 5 | | dignitaries; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | 8 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we honor the men and women of | 9 | | law enforcement who worked during the NATO Summit and thank | 10 | | them for their dedication to the safety and welfare of others; | 11 | | and be it further
| 12 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 13 | | presented to representatives of the Chicago Police Department, | 14 | | Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy, the Illinois | 15 | | State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the FBI, the | 16 | | Secret Service, Homeland Security, the Illinois National | 17 | | Guard, the United States Army, and other law enforcement | 18 | | agencies involved in the NATO Summit.
