| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the passing of former | 4 | | State Representative James Donald Holloway of Chester, who | 5 | | passed away August 20, 2011; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He was the eldest of 4 children born to Donald R. | 7 | | and Elvira "Massmann" Holloway; he began his education by | 8 | | attending Marshall School, grades one through 4, Niedringhaus | 9 | | School, grades 5 and 6, and Central School, grades 7 and 8; he | 10 | | moved with his parents to Sparta in 1945 and finished eighth | 11 | | grade in the Sparta school system; he attended Sparta Community | 12 | | High School and graduated in the "Gold Rush" class of 1949, | 13 | | having served as president of the junior class; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He married Doris E. Cundiff on June 28, 1958, in | 15 | | Chester; their attendants were Luke and Jennie File, editor and | 16 | | publishers of the Chester Herald Tribune; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, He had always been interested in politics and | 18 | | started at an early age; in 1953, he filed for county treasurer | 19 | | on the Democratic ticket and was elected November 2, 1954; | 20 | | having served 4 years as county assessor and treasurer and not | 21 | | being eligible to succeed himself, he ran for the office of | 22 | | State representative from the 58th District, composed of the |

| 1 | | counties of Monroe, Randolph, Jackson, Union, Pulaski, and | 2 | | Alexander; he was elected to the Illinois General Assembly on | 3 | | November 4, 1958, and re-elected for 8 consecutive terms, | 4 | | retiring in 1975 as a senior member of the House of | 5 | | Representatives; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, He began a career with Egyptian Electric | 7 | | Cooperative Association upon leaving the treasurer's office in | 8 | | 1958; he assumed the duties of general manager and chief | 9 | | executive officer February 23, 1976 and served in that capacity | 10 | | until he resigned in 1983, to become executive assistant to | 11 | | Illinois Attorney General Neil F. Hartigan; he served in that | 12 | | capacity until he retired from public office effective in 1988; | 13 | | and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, He served as a director of the Illinois | 15 | | Presbyterian Home in Springfield and most recently served as a | 16 | | director of First National Bank of Steeleville, and as a member | 17 | | of the board of directors of the John A. Logan College | 18 | | Foundation; he also served as a commissioner of Williamson | 19 | | County Airport Authority; he attended Westminster Presbyterian | 20 | | Church; and | 21 | | WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepson, | 22 | | David Williams; and his sister, Susie Dempsey; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Former State Representative James Holloway is | 2 | | survived by his wife, Doris Holloway; his daughters, Karen | 3 | | Hamilton and Judith (Kenneth) Pullins; his brothers, Robert | 4 | | (Alene) Holloway and Donald (Lana) Holloway; his | 5 | | grandchildren; and his 3 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 8 | | we mourn, along with his friends, family, and former | 9 | | constituents, the passing of former State Representative James | 10 | | Holloway; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of former State Representative James | 13 | | Holloway as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
