| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Lula Survel | 4 | | Mitchom on the occasion of her 100th birthday on October 14, | 5 | | 2011; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom was born on October 14, 1911, in | 7 | | Darling, Mississippi; her parents were Willie Andrew Lee and | 8 | | Sarah (Wright) Lee; she was raised by her father and | 9 | | grandmother, Fannie Lee, in Darling; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom and her family moved to Sikeston, | 11 | | Missouri in the late 1920's; while living in Sikeston, she met | 12 | | George Albert Mitchom, Sr.; she married George at age 17 on | 13 | | February 24, 1929; they remained married for 67 years until his | 14 | | death in 1997; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom and her husband moved to a number of | 16 | | cities because of George's work in highway construction; the | 17 | | couple lived in Mt. Vernon, Rolla, Missouri, Dixie Springs, and | 18 | | St. Louis, Missouri, before finally settling in Bridgeton, | 19 | | Missouri; over the course of 20 years, they had 13 children; | 20 | | George and his sons eventually built a home in Centreville, and | 21 | | the family moved into the home in August of 1950; they have | 22 | | remained in the State of Illinois ever since; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom was employed as a private housekeeper | 2 | | for several families for nearly 40 years; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom loved to sew and made many dresses | 4 | | for her daughters; she was also an excellent cook who was known | 5 | | for her delicious cakes and pies; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom is a faithful woman of God; she | 7 | | joined Calvary Missionary Baptist Church soon after moving to | 8 | | Centreville; she served as a Sunday school teacher for over 40 | 9 | | years and was a member of the Mother's Board and a Past | 10 | | President of the Missionary Board; her husband was a Baptist | 11 | | minister and they taught their children strong spiritual | 12 | | beliefs and values; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom is the matriarch of six generations; | 14 | | along with her 13 children, she has 48 grandchildren, 119 | 15 | | great-grandchildren, and 58 great-great grandchildren; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Lula Mitchom is known by her family, friends, and | 17 | | everyone she meets as a sweet, loving, and humble person whose | 18 | | dedication to her family and the Lord is unmatched; therefore, | 19 | | be it

| 1 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 2 | | we congratulate Lula Survel Mitchom on the occasion of her | 3 | | 100th birthday and wish her many happy and healthy years to | 4 | | come; and be it further
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 6 | | presented to Lula Mitchom as a symbol of our esteem and | 7 | | respect.
