| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Molly Martin on the | 4 | | occasion of her retirement on June 1, 2012, after 39 years of | 5 | | service as a distinguished music educator; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, She was greatly influenced by her parents, Barney | 7 | | and Madlyn Erdman; the chairman of the Department of Music at | 8 | | the College of Saint Catherine in
Saint Paul, Minnesota; and | 9 | | music educator Sally Small from Naperville School
District 203; | 10 | | and | 11 | | WHEREAS, She received her Bachelor's Degree from St. | 12 | | Catherine's in 1971; her Master's Degree from Northern Illinois | 13 | | University in 1992, and her
National Board Certification in | 14 | | 2006; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1971, she began her first year of teaching in | 16 | | Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the College Community School District; | 17 | | and | 18 | | WHEREAS, She taught music at Highlands Elementary, | 19 | | Maplebrook Elementary, and Scott Elementary Schools in | 20 | | Naperville School District 203 from
1972 to 1979; she taught | 21 | | music in the Bolingbrook School District in Bolingbrook from |

| 1 | | 1979 to 1981; and | 2 | | WHEREAS, In 1981, she began teaching music at The Avery | 3 | | Coonley School in Downers Grove, where she remained for 9 | 4 | | years; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, In 1992, she was hired by Northern Illinois | 6 | | University to serve in the capacity of Director of Corporate | 7 | | and Foundation Relations for one year; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, In 1993, she began teaching music in Indian | 9 | | Prairie School District 204 in Naperville, first at Patterson | 10 | | Elementary School, where she taught for 18 years, and later at | 11 | | Georgetown Elementary, where she taught for one year; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, She has influenced hundreds of young people by | 13 | | instilling a passion and love for music, especially singing, as | 14 | | she served as the Assistant Director,
Accompanist, Director, | 15 | | and Artistic Director for the Young Naperville Singers; and | 16 | | WHEREAS, She has supported colleagues by providing | 17 | | guidance for teachers, both experienced and new to the | 18 | | profession, through various mentoring initiatives; and | 19 | | WHEREAS, She has made major contributions to the field of | 20 | | music education by approaching her work with enthusiasm and |

| 1 | | honest reflection and by identifying and recognizing that each | 2 | | student has a unique way of learning; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, She plans to spend her retirement doing activities | 4 | | at her own
leisure at her home in Naperville, including | 5 | | spending time with her daughter, Elizabeth, reading, | 6 | | gardening, teaching piano, lunching with friends, and getting | 7 | | caught up on her rest; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 9 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we congratulate Molly Martin on the occasion of her retirement | 11 | | and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it | 12 | | further
