| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to honor the men and women of law | 4 | | enforcement who worked during the NATO Summit in Chicago for | 5 | | their amazing work ethic and professionalism; and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, The list of law enforcement agencies that helped | 7 | | during the Summit include: the Chicago Police Department, the | 8 | | Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, the | 9 | | FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the Illinois | 10 | | National Guard, the United States Army, law enforcement | 11 | | officers from around the State, law enforcement officers from | 12 | | neighboring states, as well as many others; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, With over a week of daily rallies and marches, law | 14 | | enforcement officers worked in high temperatures and, in some | 15 | | cases, worked longer than 12-hour shifts, and made fewer than | 16 | | 100 arrests, with most of the protestors charged with minor | 17 | | infractions and released within hours; and | 18 | | WHEREAS, President Barack Obama and Chicago Mayor Rahm | 19 | | Emanuel each praised the 12,000-member police force on May 21, | 20 | | 2012, with President Obama ending the summit by commending | 21 | | "Chicago's finest"; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Because of the diligent and dedication of law | 2 | | enforcement officers, there was little vandalism or injuries | 3 | | during the NATO Summit, making for a peaceful opportunity for | 4 | | important meetings between heads of state and other | 5 | | dignitaries; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 8 | | we honor the men and women of law enforcement who worked during | 9 | | the NATO Summit and thank them for their dedication to the | 10 | | safety and welfare of others; and be it further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to representatives of the Chicago Police Department, | 13 | | the Illinois State Police, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, | 14 | | the FBI, the Secret Service, Homeland Security, the Illinois | 15 | | National Guard, the United States Army, and other law | 16 | | enforcement agencies involved in the NATO Summit.
