| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of
Little | 4 | | Pony Eagle of Godfrey, who passed away on October 31, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was born on January 19, 1923, in | 6 | | St. Joseph, Missouri; he was the son of Red Eagle and Goldie | 7 | | Eagle; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle received his promotion | 9 | | certificate from Roosevelt Junior High School at the age of 16 | 10 | | and was believed to be the first true American Indian to | 11 | | graduate from an Alton public school; after his discharge from | 12 | | the Army in 1945, he attended Shurtleff College, where he | 13 | | graduated with a degree in engineering; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle served his country as a member | 15 | | of the United States Army with the 5th Bomber Command during | 16 | | World War II in the Pacific Theatre; he earned 5 Bronze Stars | 17 | | and a Good Conduct Medal for his meritorious service; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle retired as an engineer from | 19 | | McDonnell Douglas, where he worked on the Gemini Project in the | 20 | | 1960s; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was a Shriner and a 32nd Degree | 2 | | Mason with the Piasa Masonic Lodge #27 A.F. & A.M.; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was preceded in death by his | 4 | | wife, Hazel Eagle; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle is survived by his sisters, | 6 | | Eagle Feather Barker and Two-Star Eagle; his nieces and | 7 | | nephews, Monica Star Jerrells, Traci Dale Barker, Derrick Tyler | 8 | | Barker, Thomas Eagle DeMond, Lance J. DeMond (Nancy), Jeffrey | 9 | | Val DeMond, Rexford Jason DeMond, Bene' Star Hentrich (Andy), | 10 | | and Lezlie Monique Kearney (Tim); and his 12 great-nieces and | 11 | | great-nephews; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 13 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 14 | | we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of | 15 | | Little Pony Eagle; and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Little Pony Eagle as an expression | 18 | | of our sympathy.
