HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Bette Reed on her retirement from Conerstone Services, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, On January 5, 1981, Bette J. Reed began working for Will County Sheltered Workshop, an organization that is today known as Cornerstone Services, Inc.; and

WHEREAS, In her first 7 years at the agency, Bette Reed served as Work Adjustment Training Supervisor, Skills Training Coordinator, Director of Special Projects, and Director of Residential Services; and

WHEREAS, On May 31, 1988, Bette Reed was named Director of Development, a position she held for the following 18 years; and

WHEREAS, Bette Reed's dedication to the people who receive services at Cornerstone was further acknowledged when she was promoted to Vice-President/Chief Development Officer in 2006; and

WHEREAS During the 31 years she has been employed by Cornerstone, Bette Reed has played a pivotal part in the expansion of services for people with disabilities in Will and Kankakee Counties, including the development of community-based group homes, employment services, day program community services, residential services for children, and permanent supportive housing for people with mental health needs and their family members; and

WHEREAS, Bette Reed has devoted countless hours to fundraising events for Conerstone, coordinating stage entertainment for many years during the Festival of Trees, and recruiting volunteers for the Celebrity Champagne Luncheon; and

WHEREAS, Bette Reed's skills as a grant writer are widely admired among her peers, as is her leadership roles in important community organizations including the Will County Continuum of Care and the Southwest Suburban Philanthropic Network; and

WHEREAS, The revenue generated for Conerstone through the many grants written by Bette Reed are vast and have improved the lives of numerous people; and

WHEREAS, Bette Reed will begin enjoying a well-deserved retirement from Cornerstone beginning in January of 2013; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Bette J. Reed for her 31 years of dedication to the mission of Cornerstone Services: to provide progressive and comprehensive services to people with disabilities and to promote choice, dignity, and the opportunity to live and work in the community, and we congratulate her on her retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Bette Reed as an expression of our esteem and respect.
