| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Robert C. Whitehead Jr. of North Chicago, | 4 | | who passed away on March 4, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, He was born in 1931 in Marion, Alabama to Robert | 6 | | and Mattie Whitehead; Robert's parents moved to the Waukegan | 7 | | area in July 1937; he attended elementary schools in the | 8 | | Waukegan-North Chicago area; he graduated from Waukegan | 9 | | Township High School in June of 1949 and received a B. A. | 10 | | Degree from Central State University at Wilberforce, Ohio in | 11 | | June 1953 with a major in Political Science-History and a minor | 12 | | in Music Education; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Central State University he | 14 | | received a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States | 15 | | Army and served two years with the 82nd Airborne Division as a | 16 | | paratrooper-ranger; upon the completion of his military | 17 | | obligation he worked as a Postal Clerk for six and one half | 18 | | years at the North Chicago Post Office; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, While working at the Post Office, he completed one | 20 | | year of law school at Chicago Kent College of Law; he earned a | 21 | | M.Ed Degree in Education at Roosevelt University with emphasis | 22 | | on Supervision and School Administration and went on to work 28 |

| 1 | | years with the North Chicago school system with 22 of the years | 2 | | as a School Principal and retired in 1990; he was the first | 3 | | black Junior High School Principal in Lake County; and
