| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of
Donald Gray Schmidt of Hinsdale, who | 4 | | passed away on April 20, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt was born on November 20, 1925, in | 6 | | Hinsdale; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt was a graduate of Hinsdale Central | 8 | | High School and the Missouri School of Mines (metallurgical | 9 | | engineering); he subsequently earned his master's degree in | 10 | | business administration from the University of Chicago; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt served as director for the DuPage | 12 | | Historical Society and worked with the Hinsdale Historical | 13 | | Society; he was a Republican committeeman and served on | 14 | | numerous boards at Union Church; he traveled and consulted with | 15 | | the Executive Service Corps of Chicago, where he donated his | 16 | | professional expertise and knowledge to groups and countries in | 17 | | need; he volunteered with Earth Watch Society, doing research | 18 | | in Fiji, Australia, Thailand, the Cook Islands, New Zealand, | 19 | | Africa, Scotland, and the Caribbean; he was also recognized | 20 | | throughout his professional career on numerous occasions with | 21 | | awards from industry professionals and colleagues; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt received an honorable discharge | 2 | | from the United States Navy for distinguished service in the | 3 | | Pacific Theater; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt was a long-standing member of the | 5 | | American Foundry Society and the Minerals, Metals and Materials | 6 | | Society; he was also an Eagle Scout and leader of Troop 10 in | 7 | | Hinsdale; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt shared his passion for antique cars | 9 | | with Hinsdale residents, driving in many of Hinsdale's 4th of | 10 | | July parades, and had a life-long love of both jazz and | 11 | | symphony music; he was a generous contributor to many | 12 | | charitable and artistic organizations throughout his life; he | 13 | | enjoyed sharing and enjoying the arts, museums, and musical | 14 | | performances with his wife; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt was granted several patents from | 16 | | the U.S. Patent office for products he designed; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt was preceded in death by his | 18 | | son-in-law, David Smith; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Donald Schmidt is survived by his wife of 29 | 20 | | years, Beverly; his children, Peter (Lisa) Schmidt, Rebecca | 21 | | Smith, and Amy (Jerzy Koturewicz) Schmidt; his wife's children, |

| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 6 | | his family and friends, the passing of Donald Gray Schmidt; and | 7 | | be it further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the family of Donald Schmidt as an expression of | 10 | | our sympathy.
