| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Elizabeth Ann Briggs of Granite City, who | 4 | | passed away on June 17, 2011; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, She graduated from Olney High School, where she | 6 | | was crowned homecoming queen of her senior class; she attended | 7 | | McKendree College, where she was a cheerleader and played | 8 | | basketball; she won the college's "Couple Ping Pong | 9 | | Championship" 2 years in a row with her sweetheart "Gene"; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, She was a volunteer in the community for many | 11 | | years and received many awards and recognition, including "The | 12 | | Citizen of the Year Award" for Granite City and President | 13 | | Bush's "Point of Light Award" for Madison County; she was a | 14 | | member of Niedringhaus United Methodist Church in Granite City | 15 | | and was active with the Sarah Circle and Church Women United; | 16 | | and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, She was a member of the Elkettes and a devoted | 18 | | member of the Teachers Sorority; she was a volunteer at Gateway | 19 | | Regional Medical Center for many years, serving as | 20 | | vice-president and president of the Auxiliary 3 times; she and | 21 | | her husband enjoyed bowling, traveling, and vacations to every | 22 | | state as well as overseas; and |

| 1 | | WHEREAS, She retired from the Granite City School District | 2 | | in 1984, after 30 years of service as a teacher; she taught for | 3 | | 23 years in Granite City and 7 years in Madison; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 | 5 | | years, Harold E. "Gene" Briggs, whom she married on June 1, | 6 | | 1949; her parents, Earl C. and Edith E., nee Morgan, Phillips; | 7 | | and her brothers, Ben, Stephen, and Wendell Phillips; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Elizabeth Ann Briggs is survived by her sons, | 9 | | Harold E. "Gene" Briggs Jr. and Timothy A. Briggs; her sister, | 10 | | Mary E. Loerch; her many nieces, nephews, and other extended | 11 | | family members and friends; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 14 | | her family and friends, the passing of Elizabeth Ann Briggs; | 15 | | and be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Elizabeth Ann Briggs as a symbol of | 18 | | our sincere sympathy.
