| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Doris A. Shallenberger of Pekin, who | 4 | | passed away on May 12, 2012; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, She was born July 29, 1932, in East St. Louis to | 6 | | Edward A. and Letha Evelyn (Kelley) Akridge; she married Vernie | 7 | | Ray Shallenberger on June 30, 1951, in Corinth, Mississippi; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, She worked as a Certified Nurse's Aide for 30 | 10 | | years for Pekin Hospital, Methodist Medical Center in Peoria, | 11 | | and for OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, retiring | 12 | | July 4, 1988; she previously worked for Boss Glove Factory and | 13 | | for the Alton Glass Factory; she also raised 5 kids and worked | 14 | | at home as a housemother; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, She was a member of the Pekin YWCA, where she | 16 | | enjoyed swimming; she also was a member of the Carrie M. Club | 17 | | at the Pekin Union Mission Society and an associate member of | 18 | | the UAW 974 Retirees Club; she went to Bunko Club for many | 19 | | years and loved being a winter Texan for 23 years; and | 20 | | WHEREAS, Her hobbies and interests included cooking, | 21 | | camping, and shopping; she also liked playing bingo, billiards, |

| 1 | | and clogging; she enjoyed family time; she was a member of the | 2 | | Community Fellowship General Baptist Church in South Pekin; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, | 4 | | Gary Lee Shallenberger; and her granddaughter, Rhonda Rodgers; | 5 | | and
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Doris Shallenberger is survived by her husband, | 7 | | Vernie Ray; her son, Johnny R. (Debbie) Shallenberger; her | 8 | | daughters, Regina A. (Johnny) Martin, Ramona E. (William) | 9 | | Howard, Frankie J. (Robert) Freeman, and Melody E. (Don) | 10 | | Tackett; her 15 grandchildren; her 37 great-grandchildren; and | 11 | | her half sister, Caroline; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 14 | | her family and friends, the passing of Doris Shallenberger; and | 15 | | be it further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Doris Shallenberger as a symbol of | 18 | | our sincere sympathy.
