SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Eugene D. "Curly" Funk III of Bloomington, who passed away on November 12, 2012; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Funk III was born on December 17, 1934, in Normal to Eugene D. and Maeotta Divilbis Funk Jr.; he married Barbara Ann Felmley on June 10, 1960, in Bloomington; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Funk III graduated from Bloomington High School in 1952; he attended the University of Illinois, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, the University of Arizona, and Illinois Wesleyan University; he served in the U.S. Army and worked for Funk Seeds International; he was the former director of Funk Farms Trust, Funk Homestead Trust, and the Paul A. Funk Foundation; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Funk III was an avid golfer and was a four-time champion of the Bloomington-Normal Match Play and a two-time champion of the Bloomington-Normal Medal Play; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Funk III was preceded in death by his sister, Sara Funk Wells; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Funk III is survived by his wife, Barbara; his sons, Eugene D. Funk IV and John Benjamin Funk; his grandchildren, Conner Cox, McLean Funk, and Davis Funk; his brother-in-law, March Wells; and dear friends, Marlene and Keith Woodruff; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Eugene Funk III, and we extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Eugene Funk III as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
