SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

50 ILCS 705/10.14 new

Amends the Illinois Police Training Act. Provides for a training program in animal fighting awareness and humane response for law enforcement officers. Provides that the purpose of the training is to equip law enforcement officers to identify animal fighting operations and respond appropriately.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning local government.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Police Training Act is amended by adding Section 10.14 as follows:

(50 ILCS 705/10.14 new)

Sec. 10.14. Training; animal fighting awareness and humane response. The Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board shall conduct or approve a training program in animal fighting awareness and humane response for law enforcement officers of local government agencies. The purpose of that training shall be to equip law enforcement officers of local government agencies to identify animal fighting operations and respond appropriately. This training shall also include a humane response component that will provide guidelines for appropriate law enforcement response to animal abuse, cruelty, and neglect, or similar conditions.
