| 2 | | WHEREAS, Formally established by the Governors State | 3 | | University Board of Trustees in 1978, the Nathan Manilow | 4 | | Sculpture Park was named for Nathan Manilow, a visionary | 5 | | developer who, along with Carrol Sweet and Philip Klutznick, | 6 | | formed American Community Builders at the conclusion of World | 7 | | War II and planned and built the neighboring Village of Park | 8 | | Forest for returning GIs; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, The history of the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park | 10 | | predates Governors State University, in that sculptor Mark | 11 | | diSuvero spent the summers of 1968 and 1969 living and building | 12 | | sculptures on the land that was to become the university; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Set within the prairie landscape of Governors | 14 | | State University, the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park serves its | 15 | | constituency with distinctive educational outreach and | 16 | | original programming, encouraging an interdisciplinary | 17 | | understanding of sculpture and art in contemporary life; the | 18 | | Park offers 29 master works of sculpture for public viewing | 19 | | situated within 100-plus acres of prairie landscape on the | 20 | | campus of Governors State University; the permanent collection | 21 | | includes 24 pieces, with 5 additional works on long-term loan | 22 | | from the artists; highlights include several important | 23 | | landscape-based sculptures created by distinguished artists at |

| 1 | | the height of their creative powers, a group of works by major | 2 | | late-20th century American sculptors, and a number of works | 3 | | representing Chicago-based artists circa 1973 to 2010; | 4 | | sculptors from France and Mexico are also represented; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park is supported by | 6 | | numerous volunteers and donors who believe in its mission and | 7 | | its primary goals of education, acquisition, and conservation; | 8 | | and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Governors State University's Nathan Manilow | 10 | | Sculpture Park provides the Chicagoland region with a premier | 11 | | presentation of large-scale contemporary sculpture; programs | 12 | | and events present the landscape and sculpture in new and | 13 | | unexpected ways that are both educational and inspiring; | 14 | | therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE | 17 | | SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that the Illinois Department of | 18 | | Transportation is requested to erect on Interstate 57 at Sauk | 19 | | Trail Road and the new interchange at Interstate 57 and | 20 | | Interstate 294, consistent with State and federal regulations, | 21 | | appropriate plaques or signs giving notice of Nathan Manilow | 22 | | Sculpture Park; and be it further
