| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Margaret Mary | 4 | | "Peggy" Steinway on the occasion of her 90th birthday; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Steinway was born on March 22, 1923, in | 6 | | the City of Chicago and to this day remains a proud native of | 7 | | the city and daughter of the State of Illinois; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Steinway is the daughter of Irish | 9 | | immigrants and has always said that, "I might live in other | 10 | | places, but I am from Chicago"; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Steinway attended Laurence Parish School | 12 | | along with her brothers, Kevin and Cyril; while excelling in | 13 | | the Catholic educational system, her high school years were | 14 | | spent at the Loretto Academy in Woodlawn; through diligence and | 15 | | hard work, she was granted a scholarship to the prestigious | 16 | | Barat College in Lake Forest; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, During the years of World War II, Margaret | 18 | | Steinway was not content to just attend college; she spent her | 19 | | summers off supporting the war effort by working at Automatic | 20 | | Electric, a Chicago company which manufactured communications | 21 | | equipment for the U.S. Army; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Steinway graduated from Barat College in | 2 | | 1945; she went to work for the Irish Consulate in Chicago and | 3 | | then followed in her father's footsteps by working for the | 4 | | Illinois Central Railroad; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, In 1949, Margaret Steinway met the | 6 | | love-of-her-life, Ralph G. Steinway, an Army veteran that had | 7 | | landed in Normandy on D-Day and fought his way across Europe; | 8 | | in keeping with the "baby boom" of the 1950s, the Steinways | 9 | | bought a house in the St. Bride Parish of South Shore and | 10 | | raised 5 children; she was a proud member of the St. Bride | 11 | | Mother's Club, volunteering time and raising money for the | 12 | | school and its vaunted football and basketball teams; and | 13 | | WHEREAS, Margaret Steinway and her husband were proud of | 14 | | the diverse careers their children entered into including | 15 | | military, business, academic, art, and law enforcement | 16 | | careers; she is especially proud of her 7 grandchildren and 2 | 17 | | great-grandsons currently attending universities; to this day | 18 | | she proudly bears the multiple hard-earned titles of mom, | 19 | | grandmother, and great-grandmother; therefore, be it
| 20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 21 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 22 | | we congratulate Margaret Steinway on the occasion of her 90th |

| 3 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 4 | | presented to Margaret Steinway as an expression of our esteem | 5 | | and respect.
