| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Julian O. | 4 | | Rucker, Sr.; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, In the mid-1970s in Chicago, Julian Rucker, Sr., | 6 | | known to many by "Rucker", wanted to make a difference in his | 7 | | community; he established Cook County Basketball League, which | 8 | | flourished in the 1980s with young future talents such as the | 9 | | Cummings brothers, Tracy Dildy (King High School), Melvin Nunn | 10 | | (Simeon High School), Jeff Duncan (DuSable High School), and | 11 | | many others; the program was designed to give "at-risk youth" a | 12 | | positive alternative; in 1981, the program implemented 2 major | 13 | | sponsors, WMAQ Channel 5 and Little Bucky; by 1982, there were | 14 | | an estimated 500 kids on the South and West Sides actively | 15 | | playing in CCBL tournaments; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, In 1984, Julian Rucker, Sr. began a career in | 17 | | real-estate by purchasing a 37-unit building, a 57-unit | 18 | | building, a 12-unit building, and a 6-unit flat; in total, he | 19 | | owned and managed over 90 apartments, which were managed by | 20 | | himself and his 3 sons, Julian Jr., Aaron, and Warren Rucker; | 21 | | and
| 22 | | WHEREAS, In April of 2011, Julian Rucker, Sr. received an |

| 1 | | award for courage from the City of Chicago for saving a woman | 2 | | from a knife-wielding man; the man was later convicted of | 3 | | attempted murder; therefore, be it
| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 5 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 6 | | we, along with his family and friends, mourn the passing of | 7 | | Julian O. Rucker, Sr.; and be it further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 9 | | presented to the family of Julian Rucker, Sr. as an expression | 10 | | of our sympathy.
