| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are pleased to congratulate Judge John Gorman | 4 | | on the occasion of his retirement; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Judge Gorman will retire on February 18, 2014 | 6 | | after serving 14 years as a distinguished Federal Magistrate in | 7 | | Federal District Court in Peoria; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Judge Gorman was appointed Circuit Judge in 1980, | 9 | | elected in 1982, and served until 1990 when he was appointed to | 10 | | the Appellate Court; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, As Chief Judge from 1994-1998, Judge Gorman was | 12 | | instrumental in improving the juvenile detention center, | 13 | | creating a drug court, and organizing an alternative school; he | 14 | | led the judicial education committee statewide and received the | 15 | | Newman Award for those efforts; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Judge Gorman was born in Flanagan on May 5, 1942 | 17 | | to John and Lorene Gorman; he graduated from Flanagan High | 18 | | School and Illinois Wesleyan University with honors; he earned | 19 | | his Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois Law School in | 20 | | 1967 and practiced with Goldsworthy, Fifield, and Gorman until | 21 | | 1979 when he was selected to be an Associate Judge; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Judge Gorman married Susan Williams in June of | 2 | | 1964 and they have 3 daughters, Kate (Jim) Hubler, Kristen | 3 | | (Todd) Jones, and Kerry (Marc) Wells and 7 grandchildren, Ellie | 4 | | and Ava Hubler, Tyler and Ryan Jones, and Josie, Joanna, and | 5 | | Julia Wells; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 7 | | NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 8 | | we congratulate Judge John Gorman on his retirement and wish | 9 | | him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further
| 10 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 11 | | presented to Judge Gorman as an expression of our esteem and | 12 | | respect.
