SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
65 ILCS 5/1-2-11  from Ch. 24, par. 1-2-11

    Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that retired police officers may serve summons for violations of ordinances occurring within their municipalities (currently, only active duty police officers may do so). Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5changing Section 1-2-11 as follows:
 
6    (65 ILCS 5/1-2-11)  (from Ch. 24, par. 1-2-11)
7    Sec. 1-2-11. (a) A sheriff may serve any process or make
8any arrest in a municipality or a part of a municipality
9located in the county in which the sheriff was elected that any
10officer of that municipality is authorized to make under this
11Code or any ordinance passed under this Code.
12    (b) Active duty or retired police Police officers may serve
13summons for violations of ordinances occurring within their
14municipalities.
15    (c) In addition to the powers stated in Section 8.1a of the
16Housing Authorities Act, in counties with a population of
173,000,000 or more inhabitants, members of a housing authority
18police force may serve process for forcible entry and detainer
19actions commenced by that housing authority and may execute
20orders of possession for that housing authority.
