| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Odie C. Carpenter Sr.; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. was born on January 4, 1925, in | 5 | | Macon, Mississippi; his parents were Susie Dolly and Henry | 6 | | Carpenter; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. attended school in Macon, | 8 | | Mississippi; he later moved to East St. Louis and enlisted into | 9 | | the United States Army as a military policeman; he was awarded | 10 | | a Victory Medal for his service during World War II; while he | 11 | | was in the military, he met and married Ramona Carpenter; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, After his stint in the Army, Odie Carpenter Sr. | 13 | | returned to East St. Louis and began selling insurance for the | 14 | | Supreme Life Insurance Company; he later began working at St. | 15 | | Clair Laundry; he then left St. Clair and became a mail handler | 16 | | with the United States Postal Service, where he served | 17 | | faithfully until his retirement after 29 years of service; | 18 | | after his retirement from the Postal Service, he served as a | 19 | | school crossing guard for the East St. Louis School District | 20 | | 189; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. was a member of Friendship |

| 1 | | Missionary Baptist Church and served for many years on the | 2 | | church's Usher Board; while serving the ushers, he concurrently | 3 | | served as the treasurer and kept a watchful eye on the | 4 | | ministries revenue; and | 5 | | WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. was preceded in death by his | 6 | | parents; his sister and brother; and his son; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Odie Carpenter Sr. is survived by his wife of 65 | 8 | | years, Ramona Carpenter; his daughter, Wanda; his sons, Odie | 9 | | Jr. (Patricia), Danny (Valerie), and Tyrone (Linda); his 14 | 10 | | grandchildren; his 26 great-grandchildren; his special cousin, | 11 | | Willie Reed; and his many nieces, nephews, other family | 12 | | members, and friends; therefore, be it
| 13 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 14 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 15 | | his family and friends, the passing of Odie C. Carpenter Sr.; | 16 | | and be it further
| 17 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 18 | | presented to the family of Odie Carpenter Sr. as an expression | 19 | | of our sympathy.
