| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Edward J. Layden Sr. of Hoopeston, who | 4 | | passed away on April 6, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. was born on May 23, 1919, in | 6 | | Cheneyville; his parents were Edward and Cornelia Layden; he | 7 | | married Jean Kinsella in September of 1947, in Bloomington; she | 8 | | preceded him in death on May 3, 1958; he married Eileen Green | 9 | | on November 26, 1959, in Hoopeston; and
| 10 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. graduated from John Greer High | 11 | | School in 1937; he subsequently attended the University of | 12 | | Notre Dame and the University of Wisconsin at Madison; he was a | 13 | | proud member of the Notre Dame Alumni Association and a | 14 | | lifetime member of the University of Wisconsin Alumni | 15 | | Association; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. served his country with pride as | 17 | | a member of the United States Army; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. had farmed for his entire life | 19 | | until his retirement in 2004; he served on the Hoopeston Area | 20 | | School Board from 1964 to 1973; he served on the DACC Board of | 21 | | Directors from 1976 to 1989 and the DACC Foundation Board from |

| 1 | | 1990 to 2000; he was also inducted into the DACC Athletic Hall | 2 | | Of Fame in 2008 and was recognized as a Founder of DACC in | 3 | | 2011; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. was a lifelong member of St. | 5 | | Anthony Catholic Church, where he had served as a trustee and | 6 | | also served on the Parish Council; he was also a 4th Degree | 7 | | member of the Knights of Columbus; and | 8 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. enjoyed reading about history, | 9 | | with a particular interest in his grandfather's participation | 10 | | in the Civil War; he was also an avid sports enthusiast with a | 11 | | great passion for Notre Dame; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. was preceded in death by his | 13 | | parents; his brothers, Tom and Paul; his sister, Marie Ellen | 14 | | McKean; his son, Michael; and his 2 grandchildren; and | 15 | | WHEREAS, Edward Layden Sr. is surviving by his wife, | 16 | | Eileen; his children, Edward J. (Yvonne) Layden Jr., Tade (Sue) | 17 | | Layden, Mary Kay (James) Brown, Margaret (Dr. Alan) Brewer, | 18 | | Colleen Layden, Abby (Mark) Linesch, Patrick Layden, and Molly | 19 | | (Eric) Miller; his daughter-in-law, Barbara Layden; his 24 | 20 | | grandchildren; his 16 great-grandchildren; his brother, | 21 | | Richard P. Layden; and his sisters, Ruth Marie Carter, Agnes | 22 | | (Dr. David) Davis, and Patricia (Leonard) Newman; therefore, be |
