2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Charlann (Skaar) Schwan of Ivanhoe, who |
4 | | passed away on July 24, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan was born in Chicago to Elling and |
6 | | Jula Skaar; she graduated from Taft High School and attended |
7 | | Northern Illinois University; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan worked as a flight attendant for |
9 | | United Airlines; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan volunteered as a Cub Scout den |
11 | | mother and with the Community Christian Church in Lincolnshire, |
12 | | where she was an active member of the congregation for nearly |
13 | | 40 years, serving as Sunday school teacher, Stephen Minister, |
14 | | in various Board positions, and helped run the soup kitchen and |
15 | | the annual garage sale; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan was named Lincolnshire's Citizen |
17 | | of the Year in 1983 and served on the village board as a |
18 | | Trustee from 1987 to 1992; and |
19 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan was a member of the Spring Lake |
20 | | Sports League, the Cambridge Forest Association, the Park |

1 | | Board, and was a longtime member and former President of the |
2 | | Lincolnshire Garden Club; most recently, she was elected to the |
3 | | Woods of Ivanhoe Homeowner's Board; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan enjoyed traveling around the |
5 | | world with her husband, visiting more than 30 countries; and |
6 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan and her husband were strong |
7 | | supporters of Culver-Stockton College, and, in 2012, they |
8 | | dedicated the Joseph and Charlann Schwan Center for Business |
9 | | and Technology; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Charlann Schwan is survived by her husband of |
11 | | nearly 50 years, Joseph; her brother, Anders Skaar (Kathleen); |
12 | | her cousin, Bjarne Trefall (Ingrid); her daughter, Juliann |
13 | | Larimer (Thomas); her sons, John Eric (Kimberly) and J.V. |
14 | | (Julie) Schwan; and her grandchildren, Sydney Schwan, Emelia |
15 | | Larimer, Sarah Larimer, Alexandria Schwan, Andrew Schwan, |
16 | | Victor Larimer, and Addison Schwan; therefore, be it
|
17 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
18 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
19 | | Charlann (Skaar) Schwan, and extend our sincere condolences to |
20 | | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it |
21 | | further
