| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Gerald "Jerry" VanWinkle of Peoria, who | 4 | | passed away on August 9, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle was born on March 23, 1938 in | 6 | | Peoria; his parents were John D. and Velda M. (Foster) | 7 | | VanWinkle; he married Carol Hagel on October 2, 1970, in | 8 | | Havana; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle graduated from Manual High | 10 | | School; he subsequently attended Bradley University for | 11 | | mechanical engineering; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle retired from Caterpillar as a | 13 | | journeyman millwright, working in Research and Development at | 14 | | the Caterpillar Technical Center in Mossville; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle was a life member of Illinois | 16 | | Lodge 263, the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and Mohammed | 17 | | Temple, Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic | 18 | | Shrine; he was a life member of the Society of Hospitalers, a | 19 | | Thrice Potent Master and life member of the Valley of Peoria | 20 | | Scottish Rite, and a life member of American Veterans (AMVETS); | 21 | | he was also a member of the Midwest Gun Collectors Association, |

| 1 | | for which he taught basic safety, and of the Midwest Cruisers | 2 | | Association, where he enjoyed showing his 1979 green Ford truck | 3 | | at cruise-ins; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle enjoyed spending time at | 5 | | Wildlife Prairie State Park and with his horses, Bobbie and | 6 | | Sissy; and | 7 | | WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle was preceded in death by his | 8 | | parents and his brother, Ron VanWinkle; and | 9 | | WHEREAS, Gerald VanWinkle is survived by his wife, Carol; | 10 | | his children, Lynn Kerley, Mark (DiAnna) Kerley, Jerry (Kelly) | 11 | | Kerley, and Michelle (Rob) Banta; his 11 grandchildren; his 7 | 12 | | great-grandchildren; his niece, Rhonda Dyess; and his | 13 | | sister-in-law, Kay VanWinkle; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 16 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Gerald "Jerry" | 17 | | VanWinkle; and be it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Gerald VanWinkle as an expression of | 20 | | our sympathy.
