| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John H. "Jack" Wallace, Sr., who passed | 4 | | away on September 14, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was born on March 17, 1921 in | 6 | | Pitcairn, Pennsylvania; he completed boot camp at the Great | 7 | | Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago and served as a | 8 | | Gunner's Mate during World War II in the South Pacific Theater; | 9 | | after the war, he graduated from Indiana State Teachers College | 10 | | (now Indiana University of Pennsylvania); he married Alta Mary | 11 | | Middlehurst in 1950 and they settled in Waukegan in 1954; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. completed his master's degree | 13 | | from Roosevelt University in Chicago and studied at the | 14 | | University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and Northern | 15 | | Illinois University in DeKalb; he began his teaching career in | 16 | | Pennsylvania, eventually teaching at North Chicago Community | 17 | | High School from 1954 to 1984, retiring as Chairman of the | 18 | | Business Education Department; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was an active member of the | 20 | | First United Methodist Church and volunteered for many years at | 21 | | the Waukegan Public Library; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. was preceded in death by his | 2 | | wife of 57 years, Alta; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, John Wallace, Sr. is survived by his sister, | 4 | | Dorothy (Donald Fails); his daughters, Laurie (Ronald Steckel) | 5 | | and Mary Lynn; his son, John H., Jr. (Carol); his | 6 | | grandchildren, Heather Steckel (Jason Victor), Bryan Steckel | 7 | | (Lindsay), and Katherine Wallace (Jarred Hill); and his | 8 | | great-grandson, Jackson Victor; therefore, be it
| 9 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 10 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 11 | | John H. "Jack" Wallace, Sr. and extend our sincere condolences | 12 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be | 13 | | it further
