| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Eric Nefstead of Winnebago, who passed | 4 | | away on November 2, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead was born on September 9, 1943 in | 6 | | Rochelle; he grew up on a farm on the edge of Steward and | 7 | | graduated from Rochelle Township High School; he attended the | 8 | | University of Illinois until joining the United States Navy; he | 9 | | served 4 years, including one year in Vietnam as an Operating | 10 | | Room Technician attached to the 1st Marine Division Hospital in | 11 | | Da Nand and the 3rd Marine Division Hospital in Dong Ha; he | 12 | | also served at sea aboard the USS Valley Forge and the USS | 13 | | Tripoli; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Following his time in the service, Eric Nefstead | 15 | | received his Bachelor of Science in Geography from Northern | 16 | | Illinois University; he focused on meteorology and climatology | 17 | | and worked as a broadcast meteorologist in North Dakota, Iowa, | 18 | | Wisconsin, and Illinois; in 1982, he received the American | 19 | | Meteorological Society Seal of Approval for Television | 20 | | Broadcasting; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead enjoyed watching thunderstorms | 22 | | develop and learning how weather worked firsthand; he also |

| 1 | | liked gardening, beekeeping, and public speaking; and
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead was preceded in death by his | 3 | | parents; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Eric Nefstead is survived by his son, Tovin "Tom" | 5 | | Nefstead; his sisters, Cathy and Margaet Nefstead; his niece, | 6 | | Michelle Hartman; his nephew, Matthew Nefstead; and good | 7 | | friend, Penelope Blake; therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 9 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 10 | | Eric Nefstead, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 11 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 12 | | further
