2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Margaret O. "Peg" (nee O'Donnell) Coffin | ||||||
4 | of Oak Brook, who passed away on December 21, 2013; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin was born in New York City; she | ||||||
6 | graduated first in her class in 1949 and was a member of the | ||||||
7 | Law Review at St. John's University School of Law in New York; | ||||||
8 | and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin held a number of legal and | ||||||
10 | business positions, including Circuit Court Judge of DuPage | ||||||
11 | County, Assistant State's Attorney of DuPage County (Criminal | ||||||
12 | Division), Executive Development Program graduate, and manager | ||||||
13 | at the Hanover Trust Company in New York City; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin had extensive civic leadership | ||||||
15 | experience; her positions included being a member of the | ||||||
16 | Hinsdale District 86 Board of Education, President of St. Isaac | ||||||
17 | Jogues Board of Education, the founding member and first | ||||||
18 | President and Director of the DuPage Association of Women | ||||||
19 | Lawyers, a member and acting Chairman of the Zoning Board of | ||||||
20 | Appeals for the Village of Oak Brook, Chairman of the Zoning | ||||||
21 | and Annexation Committee for the Oak Brook Civic Association, | ||||||
22 | President, Director, and Co-Founder of the Fullersburg Woods |

1 | Area Association, and Executive Board Member of the Education | ||||||
2 | Advisory Committee for the Catholic Diocese of Joliet; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin had many passions during her life; | ||||||
4 | she was a private plane pilot, including aerobatic flying, and | ||||||
5 | she was often involved in political campaigns and initiatives; | ||||||
6 | and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Margaret Coffin was the loving daughter of the | ||||||
8 | late Hugh and Anne O'Donnell; the beloved wife of the late | ||||||
9 | George Coffin, Jr.; the devoted mother of Susan, Adrienne, and | ||||||
10 | Philip (Holly); the cherished grandmother of Elizabeth and | ||||||
11 | Sarah Coffin-Karlin, Darcy and Devin Kolstad, and Roger, Peter, | ||||||
12 | and Jennifer Coffin; and the dear sister of John O'Donnell, the | ||||||
13 | late Hugh "Buddy" O'Donnell, and the late James O'Donnell; | ||||||
14 | therefore, be it

15 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | ||||||
16 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
17 | Margaret O. "Peg" Coffin, and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
18 | her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | ||||||
19 | further

20 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
21 | presented to the family of Margaret Coffin as an expression of | ||||||
22 | our deepest sympathy.
