2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Merle Kirby of Greenview, who passed away |
4 | | on January 14, 2014; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was born on June 7, 1935 in Buffalo; |
6 | | his parents were Arthur and Opal (nee Duncan) Kirby; he |
7 | | graduated from Tri-City High School in 1953 and attended |
8 | | Blackburn College; he married Jane Armstrong on April 10, 1955; |
9 | | and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was a farmer in the Greenview area for |
11 | | many years and was employed by the Illinois Historic |
12 | | Preservation Agency for 25 years; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby served as Chairman of the Menard |
14 | | County Commissioners Board for 19 years; he was a member of the |
15 | | New Salem Shrine Club, Greenview Masonic Lodge #653, the Menard |
16 | | County Farm Bureau, Jesters, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish |
17 | | Right 33rd Degree; he was also a member of the United County |
18 | | Council of Illinois and the Greenview Community Fire Protection |
19 | | District Board; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby enjoyed taking fishing trips to his |
21 | | cabin in Minnesota; and |
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby was preceded in death by his wife, |
2 | | Jane; his son, Patrick "Fudd"; his brothers, James, John, |
3 | | Eugene, and Donald; his brother-in-law, Bill Armstrong; and his |
4 | | sister-in-law, Susan Armstrong; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Merle Kirby is survived by his daughter, Durinda |
6 | | Kirby; his son, Mike (Lori); his brother, William Dean Kirby; |
7 | | his grandchildren, Landon "Hoss" (Jamie) Kirby, Natasha (Adam) |
8 | | Bacon, and Kaylee Kirby; his step-grandchildren, Ryan and |
9 | | Jeremy "Tank" Hatfield; and his great-grandchildren, Kirby Jo |
10 | | and Milo Bacon; therefore, be it
|
11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his |
13 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Merle Kirby; and be it |
14 | | further
|
15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
16 | | presented to the family of Merle Kirby as an expression of our |
17 | | sympathy.
