| 1 | | SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Richard E. Caplan of Chicago; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Richard Caplan was born in Chicago in 1927 and | 5 | | grew up in Irving Park; he graduated from Lane Tech College | 6 | | Prep High School and served in the United States Navy during | 7 | | World War II; following the war, he attended Western Illinois | 8 | | University and become a chemist; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Richard Caplan worked for Montgomery Ward where he | 10 | | earned 2 patents for chemical coatings; he later went to work | 11 | | for Dexter Midland Industrial Finishes in Waukegan as a | 12 | | salesman and quickly moved up, becoming Vice-President of Sales | 13 | | and Marketing; he retired in the early 1990s; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Richard Caplan, and his wife, Betsy, settled in | 15 | | North Carolina following his retirement to be close to his son | 16 | | and he began selling ladies shoes at a department store; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Richard Caplan enjoyed spending time with his | 18 | | family and teaching his son, Michael, how to play baseball | 19 | | while he was growing up; he loved life, his morning donut, his | 20 | | friends, and family; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Richard Caplan eventually returned to Chicago, | 2 | | and for 17 years, drove a school bus, fearlessly driving | 3 | | downtown when many other drivers would not; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Richard Caplan was preceded in death by his wife, | 5 | | Betsy; therefore, be it
| 6 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 7 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 8 | | Richard E. Caplan, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 9 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 10 | | further
| 11 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 12 | | presented to the family of Richard Caplan as an expression of | 13 | | our deepest sympathy.
